A Northwest establishment came out on top when Esquire magazine asked readers to name their "most life-changing burger joint."

Seattle-based Dick's Drive-In surprised Esquire editors earning 56 percent of votes in the poll.

"We kinda figured the honor would go to one of the bigger chains: Steak 'n Shake, In-N-Out, Five Guys," said the article featuring the results.

"We call it the "Best Fans" award!" said a posting on Dick's facebook page. "Your passion for Dick's burgers made national news! Thanks to everyone who voted, shared, and commented about their burger bliss."

Dick's Drive-In has been serving Northwest customers since 1954. There are six Dick's locations in the Puget Sound area, with the newest opening in Edmonds last year.

    Ah Dick's............
....they used to make a good burger back in college days. Today.....not so much.

I took the girlfriend to Dick's in Wallingford after the Big Head Todd and the Monsters concert. I was disappointed.....and the COST! Holy crap! We could have eaten at Red Robin and got a REALLY good meal for just a little bit more?!

About the only thing life-changing after eating that meal was 24 hrs. later.....know what I mean?!?!

A bit of the "Peter Pan" syndrome going on here? Yes, Dick's prices have appreciated over the near 60 years since 1954 in Wallingford. STILL a destination stop for many out of towners to Seattle for the first time. Just as well that you find the pre-fab Red Robins more to your liking. At least you won't be wasting time in one of the 3-4 lines 12 deep at Dick's. Seems you are out numbered.

    the irony...
Funny, because Dick's is about as pre-fab as they come. We all know it's take it or leave it...if you want it any different, then pull out the nickels and buy some ketchup, onions, or tartar sauce for your burger. I'm not saying Red Robin is strides better than Dick's (I can't even remember the last time I went to RR) but rather, that each establishment has its place. For Dick's, it's that Pre-fab = Fast & Cheap. By that equation, it's also a sad commentary that Fast & Cheap Pre-fab = Life-Changing. ;-)

The burgers are made EXACTLY the same way as when you younger. The one who has changed is you. Thanks a lot for mentioning Red Robin. Now, in my head, for the rest of the day, I’m going to hear that stupid “Birthday” song they incessantly sing.

    that's what scares me Moondoggie
I remember the late 70's when Dicks in Spokane was shut down for mixing cat meat in the burgers. I've never eaten at a Dick's since and never will - even though folks tell me that was soooo long ago - they don't do that anymore. But still, it does scare me that they may be EXACTLY the way they were when I was younger.

I've never been a fan of the burgers, the fries though are great. Have passed them up many times though because they only take cash.

Great to see a local joint get positive national attention.
But I will leave the food kudos to those with iron stomachs and only $2.79 in their pocket.

Two things are, in fact, life changing about Dick's. First is when you experience your first cheeseburger that left no cheese on the wrapper. The second is when you take your first diarrhea.
