A $20 million city of Seattle program to weatherize homes and businesses is off to a slow start, but that hasn't stopped one site from listing Seattle as 'smart' with green technology. (97.3 KIRO FM/Tim Haeck)

We already know Seattle is book-smart; this year, the
Emerald City ranked second on a list of ‘most literate cities.’

A new list, from Green Chip Stocks, says
that Seattle is smart too, which for them means we’re
making headway with green technology. The city was ranked fifth on the list.

Among the perks of being green and sustainable, the city offers tax breaks for businesses and homes using green technology. The community’s involvement in green technology speaks volumes to the list creators.

It’s high praise after one of the city’s programs that
touted energy efficiency, the government funded
weatherization of homes, came under harsh criticism from
The Daily
Show
.

The city defended
the three-year federal stimulus grant program that
promised to upgrade 2,000 homes, but halfway through, just
71 homes have been improved.

Boston and San Jose topped the list of ‘smart’ cities.
