Crews began work Tuesday on a 175-foot Ferris wheel on
Pier 57 in Seattle.

“It will be hopefully, the kind of thing people will look
forward to visiting and riding when they come to Seattle,”
said Hal Griffith, owner of Pier 57, where the Ferris
wheel is being built.

The wheel, with 42 glass bottom gondolas, will face out
toward the Olympic Mountains, giving riders a spectacular
view of Elliott Bay.

“It will be roughly 200 feet off the water and you’ll have
a panoramic view of the entire region,” said Griffith.

He hopes the Ferris wheel, scheduled to open in June, will
attract businesses to the waterfront during the Alaskan
Way Viaduct replacement project.

Admission has not yet been determined, but Griffith says
it could be between $12-$15.
