Girls in Amber Alert found OK; mother suspected in stabbing still at large

The King County Sheriff's Office says two girls at the center of an Amber Alert have been found safe.

The girls' mother, Doreen Starrish, is suspected of stabbing their father at his Shoreline home Thursday morning and then taking off in her car with the kids.

Sheriff's say Starrish's relative dropped 7-year-old Helen Smith and 3-year-old Alice Smith at the victim's mother's house in Seattle.

Starrish, 28, is still on the loose.

Cindi West, with the King County Sheriff's Office, says when deputies arrived to the victim's house in the 1500 block of NE 190th Thursday morning, they found a 29-year-old man who had been stabbed in the chest. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. He is out of surgery, but in the same condition.

"The victim's estranged girlfriend, they have two children together, (two girls ages 3 and 7) fled after the stabbing."

Doreen Smith is a suspect in a Shoreline stabbing. She made off with her two daughters.

West says Starrish is described as looking Native American, she has a tattoo on the right side of her neck and she's about 5'8" and weighs 170 lbs.

Police believed Starrish took off in a 2000 silver Lincoln Navigator with the license plate ABK0976. The car was found on Lake City Way at about 1:15 p.m. with a male inside. Starrish and the girls were not inside.

Now police are saying the woman may be driving a black, Cadillac STC.

KIRO 7 reports Starrish allegedly stabbed the girls' father when she went go pick them up from his house. She stabbed him, grabbed the girls, and took off in the Lincoln. KIRO 7 reports when investigators asked who stabbed him, the man answered "I'd rather not say."

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
