Parents of children molested on bus sue Olympia School District

Parents are suing the Olympia School District after they say their children were molested by a bus driver.

The mother of a 7-year-old girl claims the school did not do enough to protect her daughter.

"You're supposed to trust the school system, you're supposed to trust the bus," Abbi, a mother of one of the victims, tells KING 5.

The girl's bus driver, Gary Shafer, has admitted to molesting several girls who rode buses in the Olympia School District from 2005 to 2010.

He's now serving 15 years in prison.

But the district tells KING 5 that Shaffer passed a background check and maintains that there were no red flags.

So far three families have filed lawsuits against the district.
