Seattle's own Ezell's Famous Chicken is in the running for the title of "Most Life-Changing Fried Chicken."

Esquire Magazine asked readers to name their most life-changing commercial fried chicken purveyors. Ezell's in Seattle was among the top submissions and has been included in an online poll open to readers' votes.

"I love Ezell's," 97.3 KIRO FM's Dori Monson told his audience, after spotting Ezell's on the list. "Ezell's one year made me fat."

Monson said he once gained 20 pounds during a period where he frequented the restaurant a couple times a week.

"Ezell's is a good once a quarter place for me [now]," said Monson, still encouraging listeners to vote for the Seattle chicken spot.

Ezell's currently ranks second in the online poll behind Price's Chicken Coop in North Carolina.

Esquire editors note the chicken fryers ranked in the top ten tend to be southern. Ezell's is the only Northwest candidate for best chicken.

I ran the 2001 Portland Marathon along side Ezell for about 20 miles. We talked as we ran and I was impressed with this svelte man running a marathon who also sold fried chicken. I asked him to reconcile this, and he said that he fried his chicken to be the best fried chicken, and what it took to make it the best were the oils friers, and seasons. He also talked fondly about being able to provide living wage incomes to his employees. That was a memorable marathon. It may have been the 2000 marathon. I love Ezell's fried chicken even when I am training for a marathon. The wings are the best.

I refuse to go there anymore since his ex-wife basically stole his name. Please show your support to the REAL Ezell by going to his Heaven Scent locations!
