Pack of raccoons attacks woman in Lakewood

Jul 10, 2012, 12:16 PM | Updated: 1:27 pm

A woman was left with more than 100 wounds after being
attacked by a pack of raccoons Monday afternoon, according
to the Lakewood Police Department.

Michaela Lee, 28, was walking her dog on a trail near
Steilacoom Park at around 1:30 p.m. when five or six
raccoons began to chase her, according to Lt. Chris Lawler.

“She took off running for her residence,” Lawler said. “Five
or six raccoons chased her, eventually knocked her down and
attacked her.”

Lawler said a neighbor heard the commotion and witnessed at
least three large raccoons maul the woman for 15 to 20
seconds. Medics and animal control officers were called to
the scene.

Lee was taken to the hospital to be treated for a number of
scratches and bite wounds.

Lawler called the incident “isolated,” and said raccoons in
the area are not known to be aggressive.
