Two men fall from I-5 overpass trying to escape police
on July 31, 2012 @ 5:49 am (Updated: 8:41 am - 7/31/12 )Seattle police report two men were arrested after jumping or falling from an I-5 overpass trying to escape police pursuing them on foot.
Police had been responding to a report of shots fired in the 4800 block of Corson Avenue South.
When officers arrived on the scene, they saw multiple suspects take off running. The first suspect was quickly caught. Two others tried to make an escape by heading toward I-5.
One of the men reportedly either jumped or fell over the barrier that separates the north and southbound lanes of the freeway near Airport Way South and South Snoqualmie. The 20-year-old fell 40 to 50 feet.
The man was found unconscious. Several lanes of southbound I-5 were shut down as medical units responded. The man was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life- threatening injuries.
Another one of the suspects was found hiding in the bushes near where the second suspect had fallen. He was also transported to Harborview Medical Center and is in stable condition.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
