Two Washington schools on Forbes' list of top colleges
on August 2, 2012 @ 5:40 am (Updated: 7:06 am - 8/2/12 )Two schools in Washington state are being recognized among the top 100 on Forbes list of the top colleges in the U.S.
Whitman, a small liberal arts school in Walla Walla comes in at number 44 on the list, while the University of Washington is listed at number 87.
Princeton, Williams College and Stanford top this year's list.
Michael Noer, the executive editor of Forbes, says the rankings are based on graduation rates, student outcomes, low levels of debt and post-graduate success.
Whitman is ranked number 44 overall, and at number 39 among private colleges. Forbes reports the total annual cost for students attending the four-year liberal arts college is around $52,856. Total annual cost of attending the University of Washington is listed at $41,543.
The schools differ dramatically in size, with Whitman college hosting a current population of 1,596 students, and the University of Washington serving 42,444 students.
