Detective Mark Jamieson with the Seattle Police Department says the 32-year-old had his head in his hands as he sat cross-legged in the southbound lane in the 10400 block of 15th Avenue NE.
Police say a witness at the scene saw the man sitting in the road before he was struck.
"As the witness was approaching the victim, in an attempt to remove him from the road, a car struck the man, killing him instantly," Jamieson says.

When police caught up with that driver about a half-mile away they said it looked like 23-year-old had been drinking.
The driver has been arrested for DUI and investigation of vehicular homicide and hit and run.
