Three masked robbers hold up Lakewood bank

Sep 6, 2012, 12:11 PM | Updated: 1:52 pm

There was an armed robbery at a Lakewood bank Thursday morning and police say it looks like it was a well-planned heist.

“Witnesses are telling us that there were three suspects that went into the bank, basically kind of a take-over style in the sense that they ordered everybody to the ground and jumped over the counters,” says Lakewood Police Lieutenant Chris Lawler.

The robbery happened at the US Bank branch at 9310 Bridgeport Way SW at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday. As they reviewed the surveillance tapes, Lawler says it looks like at least one of the suspects had a handgun.

The three suspects left the bank in a stolen Buick that was later found abandoned nearby. A witness told police he saw the suspects jump into a white SUV driven by a white woman. The witness was not able to give any details about the car or a license plate number.

Police have released several surveillance photos and are working to release a surveillance video from the bank soon.
