Man accidentally shoots himself in leg inside Tacoma Chuck E. Cheese

Sep 17, 2018, 7:06 AM | Updated: 7:32 am

Tacoma police say that a 22-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the leg Sunday evening while inside a Chuck E. Cheese in Tacoma.

No other injuries are reported.

“Everybody was panicking, running, screaming, grabbing kids left and right,” a witness told KIRO 7. “Kids were jumping behind machines, hiding. We were all just trying to figure out what was going on.”

“He must have pulled out the gun, or something,” another witness said. “Because everybody started scattering or running different directions. I was just frantically trying to get my kids unbuckled form the ride.”

KIRO 7 reports that many customers immediately thought it was an active shooter incident.

Police believe that the man is currently at the hospital and that firing the gun was accidental. There will not be any charges and his name will not be released. They also said that he did have a gun permit.

The Seattle PI reports that the incident caused panic inside the restaurant that hosts children and families. Many parents were angry that the man brought the firearm into a place with so many kids. The restaurant may be able to file a civil lawsuit, the PI reports. The Tacoma Chuck E. Cheese has a sign posted near the front door stating that firearms are not allowed inside.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
