Lime is looking to expand its bikeshare company in Tacoma.

The company has operated in Seattle for more than a year, and is the only bikeshare (of three) to stick it out in the city.

KIRO 7 reports Lime, aka Limebike, is beginning the permit application process to bring electric bikes and electric scooters into the city.

Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards says there may be some challenges.

“We don’t have all the infrastructure we need,” Woodards said. “My fear is that if we don’t start doing something now while we wait for the infrastructure to be built, we could be 10 or 20 years down the road before everything is absolutely perfect.”

“I think this is going to be a good opportunity for us to learn,” she said. “We are going to be studying and learning everything we can (about the bikeshare).”

If approved, there will be a 60-day trial for Lime in Tacoma, but there’s no timetable for when that would begin. The city says it’s up to Limebike to turn in a completed application.

Lime has also brought its bikes into Bellevue and Bothell, but has not added scooters yet. The company is also in Portland where it has a fleet of electric scooters.
