Anyone trying to get around this weekend should look out for “big backups each night on southbound I-5,” per warnings from the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Contractor crews will cut I-5 southbound down to one lane of traffic near Spokane street, citing “emergency concrete repair.” Lane reductions and delays will run overnight Friday through the morning of Monday, Oct. 1.
If you’re feeling like chancing it anyway, WSDOT Traffic Engineer Mike Swires cautions that “even if half the people who normally take I-5 do something else, we’re still going to see delays.”
Northbound I-5 off-ramps to the West Seattle Bridge/Spokane Street/Columbian Way and Seneca Street will also be closed over the weekend for paving.
Conversely, there’s good news for drivers in Snohomish County this weekend, as closures for US 2 have now been delayed until spring 2019. A need for drier weather is cited as the reasoning behind the delay.
“Everyone involved in this project is committed to doing it right,” said WSDOT Project Engineer Mark Sawyer. “Weather poses a big risk with overnight fog and dew preventing the waterproof matting from properly adhering to the structure.”
‼️SNOHOMISH COUNTY: The remaining two weekend closures for the US 2 paving project between Lake Stevens and Everett are postponed until next spring.
