All students at two schools in Auburn have been released to return home after they were locked down for hours on Tuesday. A nearby police standoff prompted the lockdowns.
School District spokeswoman Vicki Alonzo says buses to Mt. Baker Middle School were cut off by the SWAT presence across the street, so students were released one by one to parents driving in. Gildo Rey Elementary School was also in lockdown.
Valley SWAT was at the apartments in the 500 block of 37th SE where police say the male subject was armed with a handgun. The standoff has ended but details from police are limited.
East and West bound lanes of 37th SE in the area were closed for several hours.
