Western Washington military job fair lines up more than 40 companies

Oct 24, 2018, 10:30 AM | Updated: 10:31 am

More than 43 companies will be lining up to hire active-duty military, their spouses, and dependents in Western Washington this week.

A job fair event targeted at the military community is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at American Lake Conference Center in Lakewood.

Doug Turner with RecruitMilitary.com — which is organizing the event — says to look sharp, bring copies of your resume, and be ready for same-day interviews and to possibly get hired.

“They are looking for junior military officers,” Turner said. “I was a highly ranked enlisted member who went into one of these things and I got hired. So there are all different kinds of job opportunities out there.”

“Featured companies like Core & Main, and (Pierce County), you also have Military Sealift Command, REI, a lot of finance companies, transportation companies,” he listed off.

According to RecruitMilitary.com, veteran unemployment is at a 50-year low — 3.4 percent. It further states that Washington employers are competing to hire military members which are highly-trained.
