WSU College Republicans hope to build Trump wall

College Republicans at Washington State University are soliciting money for a replica border wall on the college’s campus in Pullman, according to The Spokesman-Review.

Operating through GoFundMe, club president Amir Rezmand is looking to raise $2,500 in total. According to the page, that would pay for “building materials, tools (and) equipment for construction, rental of security equipment and personnel, all necessary permits, gas money for volunteers, and any miscellaneous costs the university tries to throw at us.”
If you’ll remember, the last time something like this happened at WSU was in 2016, when students built an eight-foot wall made of plywood, spray-painting “TRUMP” across it in gold letters. This, in turn, prompted a massive protest on campus.
While the person behind the plywood wall in 2016, former WSU College Republicans Vice President Jacob Heinen, has since left the group for the school’s more politically diverse Political Science Club, the motivations behind his actions remains, reports the Spokesman Review.
With the stated goal to “own the libs mercilessly,” and build the wall “10 feet higher,” funding for the next replica wall is currently hovering near $1,000 in donations toward its $2,500 goal. Most donations are in the $25 to $100 range.
Many credit the 2016 wall stunt with jump-starting the membership for WSU’s College Republicans, with the ranks growing from around half a dozen, to around 40 in the ensuing months.
This comes while the club is mired in controversy, as state Democratic lawmakers have petitioned WSU to pull its recognition and funding. The driving factor can be traced to the club’s president, James Allsup, who marched at the controversial Charlottesville rally in Virginia back in 2017.
