Thief returns cash from Ohio kettle with apology

BOARDMAN, Ohio (AP) - A thief who made off with cash from a Salvation Army red kettle at a northern Ohio mall this week apparently has had a change of heart.

Police near Youngstown say that two days after the kettle was emptied out, someone left $130 and an apology at the Salvation Army.

A note found at the Salvation Army on Wednesday morning read: "Here is the money I took plus money for a new kettle and bell."

The Vindicator newspaper in Youngstown ( http://bit.ly/SzAE8b) reports that the note also said "please forgive me."

Police in Boardman say a witness saw someone wearing a Salvation Army jacket take the kettle Monday night while a bell-ringer was on a break.

A Salvation Army official says it's unclear how much money had been in the kettle.

    My Two Cents..............

I wonder who the thief mugged in order to get all the extra dough to not only return the kettle, but give them interest on their investment?

Okay my coffee has kicked in and it now makes sense....

This thief is running a Ponzi.

With his stolen Salvation Army coat, he is stealing donation kettles with undetermined amounts of cash inside....counting the money....stealing another kettle from another location....then returning the first kettle with an amount they feel will still keep them from burning in He11 and pocketing funds for being the "middle man".

Rinse and repeat ad infinitum (at least until Christmas is over)

It's brilliant, diabolical and one of the reasons I would never make a successful criminal.
