The best ways to get into downtown Seattle during Viadoom

Viadoom is coming and there’s nothing we can do about it, except to try to avoid it. Starting this Friday, Jan. 11, Seattle’s Alaskan Way Viaduct will permanently close. The tunnel replacement won’t be ready for three weeks.

The upwards of 90,000 cars that regularly use the route will have to find an alternative, and in this series of special Chokepoint columns, we’re looking at what options are best depending on where you’re coming from.

For this one, KIRO Radio’s Traffic Reporter Tracy Taylor breaks down the best side-streets and workarounds getting into downtown Seattle, coming from Sea-Tac and the Tukwila area.

“I’m going to show you some of the easier ways that you can get into the downtown corridor without kind of slogging it up that northbound I-5 drive heading up Boeing Field,” Tracy said.
