Pierce County detectives are investigating a shooting Saturday night that involved an officer with the Roy Police Department.
At 9:34 p.m. on Feb. 9, the officer attempted a traffic stop on a Polaris RZR side-by-side UTV that was driving recklessly on McNaught Street South. The UTV failed to stop and drove throughout the city before driving onto railroad tracks. The officer did not pursue on the tracks but continued to search on nearby roads.
A few minutes later, the officer spotted the UTV where the tracks crossed 295th Street East. The officer called in that shots were fired and the pursuit continued onto State Route 507.
The officer performed a PIT maneuver and the pursuit ended at 312th Street South and State Route 507.
Pierce County detectives responded to the scene and found a 47-year-old man who was driving the UTV and a 23-year-old male passenger, both with gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening. The suspects were brought to a local hospital for treatment.
The sheriff’s department is investigating.
