Winter storm passing over Western Washington, ‘couple snowflakes’ possible

A winter storm is passing over the Puget Sound region. But if you got a dusting of snow overnight, you probably won’t get much more today.
“There are some showers still holding on this morning,” said Dustin Guy with the National Weather Service. “Though levels are fairly low, between 500 and maybe 1,000 feet.”
The region has a few lingering showers, mainly in the form of a convergence zone over the southern half of King County, down into Pierce County and Lewis County. Guy says any snow that does fall won’t stick, and will be nothing like what Western Washington experienced during the last snow storm.
“We could see a few stray showers in Seattle this morning, but they will be mainly in the form of rain,” he said. “A couple snowflakes are possible in the higher hills, but really, we are not expecting much more than that.”
“All Apologies” from this meteorologist if this 5 day trend will “Drain You” of enthusiasm for this winter. It could be awhile before we’re “In Bloom” so “Come As You Are” (as long as it includes rain gear). And keep that “Lithium” ion battery charged in your phone. #wawx pic.twitter.com/N9YjUZLNrZ

The National Weather Serve in Seattle issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the valleys of Whatcom and Skagit Counties that expired at 6 a.m. Wednesday. Expected accumulation varied, but the NWS said six to nine inches were possible. Closer to Bellingham, Blaine, and Ferndale, accumulation could be up to three inches. Anywhere from eight to 18 inches of snow was expected in the Cascade Mountains. Forecasters warn that travel may be difficult.
Weekend snow
Another weather system moves in Friday into Saturday, bringing with it the possibility of snow showers. KIRO 7 Meteorologist Nick Allard says each morning over the weekend could result in snow showers.
February
The National Weather Service says temperatures could remain 5-10 degrees below normal in late February, putting us on track for one of the coldest Februaries in decades.
