Baby news at Woodland Park Zoo

Woodland Park Zoo recently welcomed new hatchlings from two turtle species, the Egyptian tortoise and western Washington pond turtle (shown above.)
The new western pond turtle hatchlings are part of the Western Pond Turtle Recovery Project. In Washington state, the species is endangered and its population is rapidly declining. To give these animals a head start, the zoo and its partner Oregon Zoo rear hatchlings each year until they are large enough to avoid predation in the wild.
