The Seattle Fire Department says the Monday night fire that burned three homes in the Queen Anne neighborhood was intentionally set.

The department said Tuesday the police arson squad is investigating.

The dramatic blaze in the 700 block of Warren Avenue North started Monday night in a storage shed and quickly spread from one house to two neighboring homes.

Flames were reported up to 40 feet high when firefighters first arrived. It took 78 fire personnel 90 minutes to completely put out the blaze.

“We had three active fires. Three houses on fire at the same time,” says Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore. “Our officers called for a 2-11 which is additional units, basically doubling the size of our unit here.”

Moore says residents were able to get out safely. No serious injuries were reported.

Damage to the homes is estimated at $560,000. The value of contents damaged inside the homes is estimated at $55,000.

“The main house suffered the most damage. It looks at least like from the back side almost like a total loss,” says Moore. “The other two homes have significant damage to it, mostly to the attic and higher parts of the house.”

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
