Artist renderings released, public comment meeting ahead for Seattle arena

Sep 9, 2013, 6:28 AM | Updated: 1:19 pm

The proposed SoDo arena has passed its legal challenges, but now it’s time for the public to weigh in on the project.

Whether you love the idea of Seattle and King County fronting investor Chris Hansen $200 million to build this $490 million arena in SoDo or whether you think that’s a terrible idea, you only have two chances to let the decision makers know what you think of the project.

There are two public meetings this month. The first is Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Bertha Knight Landes Room at Seattle City Hall.

These meetings will be the first time to question the initial environmental review that was released last month. It looked at several sites around the city, including the SoDo site south of Safeco Field. It looked at the economic benefits of the arena and what it would do to congestion around it.

Your comments will help city and county leaders decide if they should go forward with the project.

KING 5 reports Hansen’s group revealed a few more design plans for the arena over the weekend. They include a giant LED board on the outside of the glass house and rock formations for the outdoor plaza.

The second meeting will be Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.
in the Fidalgo Room at the Seattle Center.

Meanwhile, the State Court of Appeals has rejected a challenge from Longshore workers, according to The Seattle Times. The court upheld a February decision that the agreement to build the arena did not violate state environmental laws.
