Another storm blows through Puget Sound, creates traffic backups

Nov 6, 2013, 4:05 PM | Updated: Nov 7, 2013, 5:27 pm

The wind has kicked up again Thursday afternoon and it’s causing problems on area roadways. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory in effect until 8 p.m. from Everett to southwest Washington.

Drive times across the region are much longer than usual: Alderwood to Southcenter is over 100 minutes, Everett to Seattle is 90 minutes, Bellevue to Seattle is 45 minutes, Federal Way to Seattle is 60 minutes.

The Washington State Department of Transportation has reported collisions and stalls from Bellingham to Tukwila. There are so many issues, the WSDOT on Twitter has nearly given up.

Puget Sound Energy reported about 5,200 customers without power on Bainbridge Island Thursday morning, but power was restored by 4:30 p.m.

Wind brings the possibility of downed tree limbs and power outages, though KING 5 Meteorologist Rich Marriott said that thanks to the heavy gusts on Saturday, much of the “tree trimming” had already been done.

According to the NWS, the snow level in the Cascades and Olympics will drop as low as 3,000 feet.

In eastern Washington, Thursday’s storm will likely bring gusty winds with valley rain and mountain snow.

Cloudy, showery weather statewide is expected to last through the weekend and into Veteran’s Day.
