Spady: 26-year-old Ryan Strandin has never had to make a resume

Feb 28, 2019, 11:35 AM

In third grade he began using Alibaba to sell sunglasses to his classmates. Ryan Strandin’s latest venture is to make, sell, and deliver kombucha in the Seattle area with his new company – Bucha Belly.

“Yes we are the milkmen of kombucha,” Strandin told the Saul Spady Show. “If it’s supposed to be fresh, I think a business model like the milkmen had is right.”

As an avid drinker of kombucha, Ryan began making his own batches. Soon after, he noticed that his three-year struggle with acid reflux had ceased, and that he had lost some weight.

Kombucha is a fermented tea that has been consumed for thousands of years. It is rich in beneficial probiotics and antioxidants that can kill harmful bacteria and may help fight several diseases.

“Being an entrepreneur is just a really, really bad habit of saying ‘I can do that!’” Ryan said.

And so he did. Ryan created Bucha Belly.

Bucha Belly is a subscription model business. Customers can order shipments of seven bottles at a time that will be delivered to their doorstep in one week, two week, or one month increments. When the next shipment comes, the customer will leave their discarded bottles to be swapped out by Ryan himself, or a member of his growing team.

“Most entrepreneurs are so afraid to go work a 40-hour week, so they go work 100 hour weeks,” Ryan said.

It takes a different type of person to give up the comfort and certainty that a typical job can bring in order to start a business. Ryan is a perfect example of these hard-working businessmen and women that we are highlighting on the Saul Spady Show with our Entrepreneur of the Week. They are working long hours, seven days a week, wearing several different hats, just to get their businesses off the ground. Let’s praise these brave individuals, and help support our region’s entrepreneurs.

Listen the Saul Spady Show weekdays from 6-9 a.m. on AM 770 KTTH.
