Spring has sprung: Seattle hits mark for warmest March day (again)

Mar 20, 2019, 2:21 PM

As spring officially arrives, a record-breaking Tuesday for heat in the Seattle area saw an encore performance Wednesday.

Things started getting interesting between 11:53 a.m. and 12:10 p.m., marked by an 8 degree jump in temperature — from 69 to 77 degrees — in the span of just 20 minutes.

By 12:45 p.m., it got up to 78 degrees, at the time the second warmest March day on record. Thirty-five minutes later, it was 79 degrees, and the record for the warmest March day in the Seattle area was tied. The other March day to hit that mark in Seattle: Tuesday of this week.

This also marked the first time ever that Seattle has recorded three straight days over 75 degrees in March, and just the third time the month has seen three days at 70 or above.

This all comes the month after Seattle had its snowiest-ever February, making for some confusing days for those trying to plan around the weather.

Things are supposed to cool down soon — Thursday highs from the National Weather Service for Everett, Seattle, Kent, and Tacoma currently sit at 60, 63, 65, and 63 degrees respectively.

While cooler than it’s been this week, that would still make for highs above normal for this time of year in the Greater Seattle Area.
