ATLANTA (AP) - The family of a man accused of shooting an Atlanta police officer in the face says other officers hit the man repeatedly during the arrest.

Theresa Nance, sister of shooting suspect Frank Nance, told The Associated Press Friday her brother suffers from seizures. She says officers continued to hit him after he passed out from a seizure.

Officers arrested Nance Jan. 11 after another policeman was shot in the face. Police reports say Nance was resisting arrest and that an officer hit Nance in the face with his gun because he feared for his life.

A mug shot released after Nance's arrest shows the suspect with multiple bloody cuts on his face and wearing what looks like a neck brace. Police have declined to comment further on Nance's injuries.
