LIMA, Peru (AP) - Two sea lions have been released into the bay off Peru's capital after being nursed back to health by environmental activists.
Activists say the two sea lions suffered from pneumonia and hemorrhagic gastritis. They say those ailments are thought to have developed as a result of the animals being hit by fishermen.
The Peruvian environmental group Orca has for years been rescuing and rehabilitating injured sea lions. Orca leader Carlos Yaipen says the group regularly finds sea lions hurt or ill along the coast near Lima.
The pair of sea lions received a month of care before their release Thursday. Rescuers named the animals Alex and Camilo.
