Palestinian president: Jews should hear Arab viewJuly 5, 2013 @ 10:45 am
BEIRUT (AP) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is reaching out to Jews around the world to listen to the "Arab point of view" on stalled peace talks with Israel.
Abbas said Friday that Jews should hear the Arab position on negotiations, which mirrors Palestinian demands.
Palestinians say they will not talk unless Israel stops building Jewish housing in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, which they claim for their future state, along with the Gaza Strip.
Israel insists talks must resume without conditions and that settlements and other issues such as security concerns should be resolved through dialogue.
Abbas' comments in Beirut come days after U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was in the region shuttling between Israeli and Palestinian leaders in an attempt to restart talks that collapsed in 2008.
