Plan for Hanford tank delayed 2 weeksFebruary 11, 2014 @ 2:02 pm
RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) - The U.S. Department of Energy is delaying for two weeks the release of a plan to deal with a leaking double-walled nuclear storage tank at Hanford.
KONA radio reports the agency was supposed to have a plan for dealing with Tank AY-102 by the end of the week.
But the state Department of Ecology says the new deadline is March 7. Ecology spokesman Dieter Bohrmann says his agency has been talking with the Energy Department on a weekly basis about Tank AY-102.
That tank and others at Hanford contain radioactive wastes left over from the production of plutonium for nuclear weapons.
