OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Gov. Chris Gregoire is heading to Washington, D.C. for a meeting with the Council of Governors and Army Lt. Gen. Frank Grass at the Pentagon to discuss National Guard issues.
Gregoire, who is co-chair of the council, is leaving Olympia Tuesday night for Wednesday's meeting, according to her spokesman, Cory Curtis. Curtis said that the meeting was to continue ongoing discussions about the states' National Guard and their coordination with the federal government.
Political observers have speculated that Gregoire is in the mix for an appointment in the administration of President Barack Obama, but Curtis said that Gregoire had no other official meetings scheduled during her time in D.C.
She will return to the state Wednesday night.
