$1.8B King County sewage treatment plant operating

WOODINVILLE, Wash. (AP) - King County's new $1.8 billion sewage treatment plant is now operating.

The county says the plant near Woodinville started discharging into Puget Sound last week through a 13-mile tunnel to Edmonds.

The Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce reports ( http://is.gd/E4NPXO) the plant uses technology that cleans the wastewater enough to use it for some industrial processes and irrigation. The Willows Run Golf Course in Redmond plans to use the water next summer.

While work at the 114-acre treatment site is complete, crews are finishing construction on two odor control facilities near Kenmore and Lake Forest Park.
