GRANDVIEW, Wash. (AP) - A 21-year-old suspect in an armed robbery and carjackings in Washington has been arrested after a high-speed chase in Colorado.
Authorities say Marcel Maldonado was arrested Saturday afternoon in a stolen Volkswagen Jetta by Colorado law officers, following a chase that hit speeds of 140 mph.
Sgt. Mike Russell of the Yakima County Sheriff's office says investigators are trying to determine if a recovered firearm was the same one used in Washington state crimes.
He says Maldonado is being held on Colorado charges as well as a Yakima County warrant with one million dollars bail.
The Grandview man is accused of robbing a store last week and stealing two vehicles at gunpoint.
The sheriff's office says the robber crashed his car then took a pickup from someone who offered help. He then left the truck at a rest stop and stole a Jetta from a woman.
