Intruder stabs dog in Spokane home

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Police say a man fought with a burglar he surprised stabbing his dog in his home Wednesday evening in Spokane. The intruder also was stabbed in the fight that spilled into the street.

A neighbor helped Joe Crocker hold the suspect until police arrived. The 42-year-old was treated for a stab wound to the leg and jailed for investigation of burglary, assault and animal cruelty charges.

Crocker's dog, Chance, has a knife wound in the neck but is expected to survive.
