Arrest in Ferndale WA business burglaries

FERNDALE, Wash. (AP) - An undercover officer has arrested a man suspected in more than a dozen business burglaries in the northwest Washington community of Ferndale.

Detective Melanie Campos tells the Bellingham Herald ( http://is.gd/V39p8E) that a man was caught breaking into a Main Street business early Sunday.

Campos says 25-year-old Ryan Scott Cockerel was arrested and booked into jail for investigation.

Police say the downtown break-ins started in early November. In each case, a burglar shattered glass windows or doors and ransacked cash registers.

One flower shop was hit three times in four nights. Shop owner Ginger Burress says the crime wave almost drove her to shut down her store.

Police say Cockerel lives on Ferndale's Main Street. He has a previous conviction for breaking into a Bellingham music store and stealing a guitar.
