PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A Clackamas County sheriff's spokesman says a Vancouver, Wash., man is scheduled for a mental evaluation after a high-speed vehicle chase through an area southeast of Portland.
Sgt. Adam Phillips says deputies were checking out several reports of a man driving recklessly in a black Chevrolet Tahoe on Tuesday. They spotted a vehicle matching that description and several patrol cars began a pursuit with lights and sirens, but the driver kept going.
Phillips says officers finally got the vehicle to stop after putting out spike strips.
The spokesman says 44-year-old James Lee Givart was arrested and taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation. Possible charges of reckless driving and attempting to elude will be forwarded to the district attorney's office.
