Kittitas County woman hospitalized with meningitis

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (AP) - The Kittitas County public health doctor has prescribed antibiotics for people who had contact with a woman with bacterial meningitis.

The woman was hospitalized Sunday with the disease.

The contagious disease begins with headache and nausea and can cause brain damage or death. There are about 4,000 cases a year in the United States and 500 deaths.
