11 more Moses Lake cows may have bovine TB

MOSES LAKE, Wash. (AP) - Eleven more cows at a Moses Lake dairy may have bovine tuberculosis.

State Agriculture Department spokesman Hector Castro says they responded to a screening test and have been removed from the herd for additional testing to determine whether they actually have the disease.

None of 1,350 cows in the herd can be moved while testing continues. Milk from the dairy is safe, because it is pasteurized.

The state started the testing after the disease was found Jan. 8 in a cow at a slaughterhouse. No meat from the cow entered the food chain.

It's the first bovine TB seen in Washington cattle since 1988.
