WAPATO, Wash. (AP) - Wapato officials say they'll try to do something about a home surrounded by gang violence that has taken three lives in five years.
The latest shooting Sunday killed 19-year-old Abel Velazquez and wounded a 17-year-old and a 26-year-old man.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports ( http://bit.ly/13rjui0) the 26-year-old had been wounded in February in a nearby shooting. And, there were fatal shootings in 2008 and 2010 at or near the home.
Wapato Police Chief Tracy Rosenow calls the block a "hot spot" and says police will see if they can use a nuisance ordinance to address the problems. Mayor Jesse Farias says the city will look at how other cities have addressed such violence.
The survivors in the latest shooting are not cooperating with police.
