SEATTLE (AP) - Seattle police have outlined what they say was a murder-for-hire plot organized by a jailed felon who wanted a man he suspected of being a police informant to be doused with gasoline and dried "with a match."
Detective Mark Jamieson said Wednesday that the inmate hatched his plan after he was arrested Jan. 7 with a car full of body armor, guns, cash and a fake police badge. The man reportedly tried to enlist the help of another soon-to-be-released King County Jail inmate, as well as a 33-year-old man on the outside.
The plan fell apart when the inmate selected to carry out the hit talked to police, who monitored his contacts once he was released and met with the 33-year-old suspect. Police arrested the 33-year-old on Tuesday for investigation of solicitation and conspiracy to commit murder.
The jailed felon was identified as 48-year-old Ira Dechant. He, too, has been booked for investigation of murder solicitation and conspiracy.
Police say the intended victim was not harmed.
