Wrongly released inmate returns to Spokane Jail

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A Spokane County Jail inmate who was inadvertently released turned himself in after his lawyer was notified.

The sheriff's office says jailers let Gregory D. Jeffreys out Friday night by mistake when he should have been held on bank and wire fraud charges.

The FBI contacted Jeffrey's lawyer and he turned himself back into jail on Saturday morning.

The 53-year-old Spokane developer was jailed last week after an indictment accused him of a Ponzi scheme in which he secured financing for buildings that sometimes didn't exist. He pleaded not guilty and was jailed on $150,000 bail.
