Suspect, 87, in Arlington shooting dies

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - An 87-year-old man accused of shooting an employee at a Stanwood assisted living home has died.

The Daily Herald reports ( http://bit.ly/YujoVr) the Snohomish County medical examiner's office was notified Tuesday that Arthur Hames died of natural causes at a hospital after he was moved Feb. 15 from the jail.

Hames had been accused of assault in the shooting Feb. 4 in a supervisor's office at Josephine Sunset Home. The 59-year-old victim, Roger Holbrook, was wounded in the stomach and survived.

Hames told detectives he had been bullied at the home. The home says there's no evidence he was mistreated.

    How is it that an 86 yr. old man living in a nursing home has a firearm? He probably suffers from alzheimers or has dementia, a common trait in even younger republicans. Persons in nursing homes should not have firearms.

    and was free to come and go as he pleased in his own vehicle. They have a policy of no weapons allowed, but they can't realistically keep one out if he chooses to sneak one in which is evidently what happened in this case. It's a non-profit facility, so they are probably stretched thin on staff and can't really afford expensive security measures.

    he did not have Alzheimer's. Those folks are usually confined to a memory care unit and can't leave without being accompanied. Dimentia is a possibility, however.
