SEATTLE (AP) - The Washington Post Co. has sold The Daily Herald of Everett, Wash., to a community newspaper company.
The sale to Sound Publishing was announced Wednesday.
Earlier this month, Sound Publishing bought the alternative newspaper Seattle Weekly. The publishing company operates 39 community newspapers around Washington and northern Oregon with a combined circulation of more than 730,000. Its printing facility is located in Everett.
The Everett newspaper has a daily circulation of 46,000, as well as other print and online products like a Spanish-language newspaper.
"We are thrilled to have The Daily Herald join our growing family of newspapers," said Gloria Fletcher, president of Sound Publishing, in a statement. "The Herald is a very well respected newspaper and it is a great fit with our print and digital products serving the greater Seattle area."
The Washington Post owned The Daily Herald for 35 years before agreeing to the sale. The transaction is expected to close in March.
Sound Publishing is a subsidiary of Vancouver, British Columbia-based Black Press Ltd.
Black Press publishes more than 170 newspapers and other publications in British Columbia, Alberta and Washington state, as well as the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and the Akron Beacon-Journal in Ohio.
