Defendant in Selah murder trial admits he lied

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - A man accused of stabbing a woman to death in Selah in 1997 admitted on the witness stand Thursday that he initially lied to investigators about being in her apartment the night she was killed.

Michael O. Gorski said he lied because he was afraid of losing his job if he was named as a suspect in the death of Carolyn Clift.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports ( http://bit.ly/WH7qpC) he admitted Thursday he gave her a ride home from a liquor store and they kissed. He says he then left. He denies killing her.

Investigators were able to link him to the death through DNA tests in 2011 on his glasses, which were left at the scene.

Gorski and co-defendant Frank Brugnone are both on trial in Yakima on second-degree murder charges.
