Seattle won't turn on cameras until public input

SEATTLE (AP) - The city of Seattle has installed 30 surveillance cameras along its waterfront to augment security, but Mayor Mike McGinn says the cameras won't be turned on until the public has a say.

The Seattle Times ( http://is.gd/JKyCEZ) reports the mayor has directed the police department to get public input and talk to community groups before moving forward with the cameras.

Police had hoped to start using the cameras by the end of March. The devices are installed along the city's shoreline. The cameras were acquired through a $5 million federal Homeland Security grant.

Last week, the mayor ordered the police department to abandon its plan to use drones after residents and privacy advocates protested. The department will not use two small unmanned aerial vehicles it obtained through a federal grant.

The public will have it's say-
Then the cameras will be turned on. Liberals love big brother....yet we can't tap terrorists' cell phones or scare (water board) somebody into giving up intelligence that may save lives. Liberalism is indeed, a mental disease.
