Wahkiakum knocks off Winlock 62-49

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Peter Weiler had 21 points and six assists as Wahkiakum beat Winlock 62-49 on Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the Class 2B boys state tournament.

Shane Souvenir scored 13 points for the Mules (20-7). Enrique Hernandez scored 21 points and Skylar Tremayne had 13 for the Cardinals (11-15), who will play in a loser-out game.

Trailing by 10 early, Wahkiakum used a 20-2 third-quarter burst and led 33-24 after a bucket by Weiler with 2:10 left. The lead ballooned to 50-34 in the fourth quarter after a 3-pointer by Souvenir with 3:40 remaining.

Winlock jumped ahead 14-4 early after Hernandez hit his third 3-pointer midway through the first quarter.

Eli McElroy added 12 points and 11 rebounds for Wahkiakum.
