Brewster tops Castle Rock 72-41 for girls 1A title

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - Chandler Smith scored 26 points to lead Brewster to a 72-41 victory over Castle Rock in the Class 1A girls state championship game Saturday.

Smith made 10 of 19 shots, including 4 of 7 3-pointers, in the most lopsided game in 1A girls history. Smith had 22 points at halftime _ more than previously unbeaten Castle Rock.

The Bears (26-1) were firing on all cylinders in the first half, making 63 percent of their shots and out-rebounding the Rockets 22-8.

Smith grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. She also finished with eight assists, five steals and two blocked shots.

Maddi Seidl led the Rockets (26-1) with 18 points and nine rebounds, and Macee Utecht added 11 points.

Becky Mae Taylor chipped in 13 points and Monica Landdeck scored 12 for the Bears.
