Wash. law lays out proper handling of dropped pot

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Washington state is making changes in state law to deal with a legal ambiguity related to the proper handling of marijuana inadvertently left at stores that have pharmacies.

Gov. Jay Inslee gave final approval to the bill Friday. Supporters of the measure say it was prompted by incidents where marijuana was found at stores after it was apparently dropped. There was concern that having marijuana in the store could impact the licensing of pharmacies in the stores.

The measure says that if less than an ounce of pot is found at a store with a pharmacy, the store must notify law enforcement, and the marijuana must be destroyed or rendered unusable. Washington voters legalized possession of up to an ounce of marijuana last fall.

    Wonderful work, Olympia!
Now maybe do something really cool, say, balance the budget?

    Render unusable?
What do they do, mix it with dog poo or something? I would have the state have kept completely out of it and left all responsibility and liability to those involved. I also want drug tests prior to any welfare or public support is provided. Clearly if you can't support yourself, you aren't responsible enough to be using drugs. This will not end well. In a few years I suspect there will be some clear negative consequences to all of us as the trends emerge. Probably will start with insurance rates. I vote we take the counties that encompass Seattle/Tacoma and south sound areas, erect a big fence and create a city state that has to fend for itself. Most of the rest of the state would be better off and better represented if not for King and Pierce counties.

Good idea but the rest of the state would be screwed. 40% of the states tax revenue is generated from King County alone, 75% of it is generated from just six counties.
