Gig Harbor man charged in nephew's crash death

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - The Pierce County prosecutor's office says a Gig Harbor man charged with vehicular homicide and reckless endangerment for the crash that killed his 9-year-old nephew had about 4 ounces of marijuana in the car and blew a .194 on an alcohol breath test.

Jayce Lee Damon Randall pleaded not guilty Tuesday at his arraignment and was held with bail set at $250,000.

Investigators say the 26-year-old had been drinking and using marijuana before he left a family barbecue early Saturday to give his nephew and 8-year-old niece a ride to their grandparents.

Randall rolled his car off Highway 16 near Purdy. Nine-year-old Donovan Best was fatally injured. His 8-year-old sister was buckled in the back seat and not injured. She told troopers they had asked their uncle to slow down.
